The recent behind-the-scenes drama over at “The Young and the Restless” has created quite a storm, but a little bit of sunshine broke through the clouds today when CBS announced it has renewed the 40-year-old soap opera through 2017. Fans of the show have taken to Twitter to congratulate the cast and crew, and they’re not alone in the celebration: The actors are also thrilled that the sudser they call home received the official extension.
In a promo that puts emphasis on the word “new,” CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” is promising viewers a new year filled with new drama, infidelity, secrets, and reunions. In the case of infidelity, Billy (Billy Miller) won’t let the search for his daughter’s killer stop him from bumping uglies with Kelly (Cynthia Watros), while Sharon (Sharon Case) and Nicholas (Joshua Morrow) share a reunion of sorts, and Dylan (Steve Burton) wants more information from momma Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) on her secret past. Also look for Victor (Eric Braeden) and Jack (Peter Bergman) as they toast to an exciting new year!
If you thought sitting down with family and friends for Thanksgiving was going to be the highlight of the week, wait until you see what “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless” have in store for the holiday! On Monday, November 11 and Tuesday, November 12, CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” will observe Veterans Day with episodes dedicated to U.S. Veterans. According to the network, Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) will host a fundraiser to honors veterans, while also looking to get closer to her long-lost son, Dylan McAvoy (Steve Burton), who recently completed a tour in Afghanistan. Nikki’s husband, Victor (Eric Braeden), announces a plan to have his company, Newman-Chancellor Enterprises, provide jobs for qualified U.S. veterans, letting people know that he values veterans as driven, goal-oriented employees and advising other employers to seek out these proven leaders.

The newest issue of CBS Soaps In Depth, citing multiple sources, is reporting that there may be truth to reported rumors that Michelle Stafford is leaving Phyllis Summers and “The Young and the Restless” to head to ABC’s “General Hospital.” According to one of the mags sources, “It would be a big coup to get Michelle, and ‘GH’ knows it.” This is of course in response to “Y&R” and “GH” swapping cast members. In January, Steve Burton (ex-Jason Morgan, “GH”) joined “Y&R” as Dylan McAvoy, and in April, Emme Rylan (ex-Abbie Newman) joined “GH” as Lulu Spencer.
As previously reported, CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” is moving to TVGN (née TV Guide Network) beginning Monday, July 1, after spending just over 7 years on SOAPnet. The soap will continue airing same-day episodes Monday through Friday at 7:00 PM ET/PT. In the just released new promo, “Y&R” fans will see Kristoff St. John’s Neil Winters and Angell Conwell’s Leslie Michaelson having a heated convo that turns to passion. A CBS spokesperson has confirmed reports of actor Sean Carrigan joining the cast of “The Young and the Restless” in the recurring role of Stitch, an old Army friend of Dylan McAvoy’s (Steve Burton).
In a message posted today on his Twitter page, “General Hospital” star Bradford Anderson announced that he has opted to not renew his contract with the ABC Daytime drama series. As a result, he will continue portraying Damien Spinelli, a role in which he originated in 2007, as a recurring player. “Hey friends, I am still at ‘GH’ and will continue to be. Recurring isn’t a bad word 🙂 keep watching, great stuff is coming!” read Anderson’s tweet.

Tuesday, March 26 marks the 40th anniversary of “The Young and the Restless’” very first episode, and in celebration, the show is offering up plenty of special glimpses into its iconic past. For starters, the soap’s official website currently features 40th Anniversary photo galleries and videos, and there’s an option for fans to answer trivia questions for a chance to win a VIP trip to Los Angeles to tour the set and attend the show’s on-set Anniversary event. But as Angelica McDaniel, the Senior Vice President of CBS Daytime, says: The show’s 40th Anniversary is also the perfect opportunity to start focusing on what’s ahead.
Brandon Barash has announced on Twitter that he’s departing ABC’s “General Hospital.” In his message to fans, Barash tweeted, “With a bittersweet, heavy heart I announce my time at ‘GH’ has come to an end, as I have chosen to move on&pursue my NBA career. I love u all.”
