The American Film Institute (AFI) announced today its official selections for its annual AFI Awards, which honors the 10 outstanding films and 10 outstanding television programs that it deemed “culturally and artistically representative of the year’s most significant achievements in the art of the moving image.” In the TV category, AFI is celebrating “The Americans,” “Breaking Bad,” “Game of Thrones,” “The Good Wife,” “House of Cards,” “Mad Men,” “Masters of Sex,” “Orange is the New Black,” “Scandal,” and “Veep.” In film, AFI chose “12 Years a Slave, ” “American Hustle,” “Captain Phillips,” Fruitvale Station,” “Gravity,” “Her,” Inside Llewyn Davis,” “Nebraska,” “Saving Mr. Banks,” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

Back in June, “Days of our Lives'” Casey Deidrick (ex-Chad DiMera) and Chandler Massey (Will Horton), along with their And I Still Rise bandmates Stephen Haynes, Mike Gross and Josh Bonaparte, launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund a music video for their song, “Sixty Five Roses,” in support of those living with Cystic Fibrosis. Last week the group released the music video on YouTube with a digital copy of the song made available for purchase on the iTunes store. The band received nearly $31,000 in funding for their online campaign, which exceeded their goal of $20,000. The video was directed by Robby Starbuck.

One week ago today actor Paul Walker (ex-Brandon Collins, “The Young and the Restless”) died in a fiery car accident that also took the life of his friend Roger Rodas, CEO of Always Evolving, who was driving the red 2005 Porsche Carrera GT at the time when it crashed into a tree and exploded. According to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, Walker died from “the combined effects of traumatic and thermal injuries,” while Rodas died as a result of “multiple traumatic injuries.” In memory of Walker, producers behind “The Fast and the Furious” film franchise, which he was best known for, published a tribute video (seen below) of the actor on its official YouTube page. The video has currently amassed 16.7 million views worldwide.

Filmed in mid-August, episodes airing during the week of November 25 and on Monday, December 2, 2013 of NBC’s “Days of our Lives” found Gabi Hernandez (Camila Banus), Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow) and Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) seemingly unite for the first time as they worked overtime to hide their role in the apparent death of Nick Fallon (Blake Berris). Just before being hit over the head with a rock, Nick was trying to instigate sexual relations with Ms. Hernandez, who then made it clear that not only wasn’t she interested, but it wasn’t the time nor the place to get busy. In a recent interview with Soap Opera Network, Koslow gushed over the amount of effort that went into producing the episodes, particularly the river set. “It was kind of amazing what they created on the set,” the actress said. “It’s like the 90s, because in the 90s we had huge sets. I remember being on a raft, and the raft was on shocks. So we did some crazy stuff back then, and they recreated it for this story. It was actually an adventure.”

With autopsies now completed, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has announced the cause of death of actor Paul Walker and Roger Rodas, CEO of Always Evolving, who both died on Saturday, November 30 after their vehicle, a red 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, crashed into a tree and exploded. Franco will portray George in the production, which is based on the John Steinbeck novel of the same name.
