In an interview promoting her upcoming film “Bushwick,” “Guiding Light” alum Brittany Snow (ex-Daisy Lemay) has admitted to battling anorexia, depression and self-mutilation during her time as a child star on the CBS daytime drama series and her star making turn in NBC’s “American Dreams.”

While speaking with British publication the Independent, the “Pitch Perfect” actress says producers of “Guiding Light” orchestrated an intervention after they began noticing she had lost a lot of weight as a result of the then 12-year-old’s interest with fad diets. Despite producers helping lead Snow to a more healthy eating lifestyle, the actress soon fell into a depression. After departing the soap and joining the cast of “American Dreams,” she began cutting herself to deal with her pain.

“I know this is going to sound really cheesy but probably being an example for my nieces and for my friends and for people that have gone through similar things that I have gone through and trying to be strong for them, even though shit gets tough. I think that is maybe some of the most fearless things I’ve done,” says the actress of how she’s overcome her struggle.

Snow also credits “Pitch Perfect” director and producer Elizabeth Banks with keeping her grounded: “I started a production company a couple of years ago and directed a couple [of] music videos and she’s helped me a lot, actually, and we have been talking about working together.”

In “Bushwick,” Snow plays Lucy, a 20-year-old navigating the streets of the up-and-coming Brooklyn neighborhood after she’s separated from her boyfriend after discovering the area has come under Marshall law when a Texas military force invades. Dave Bautista (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) plays Supe, a war veteran who steps up to save Lucy from thugs, giving the two the chance to fight for their survival.

“The things that people know me for are more light and fun, I guess, I sing in a lot of things,” says Snow of her “Bushwick” role. “But this movie is definitely different to what people have seen before, because I’m shooting guns.”

The film, now in theaters, also stars Christian Navarro (“13 Reasons Why”). It’ll be available for digital release beginning tomorrow, August 28.
