The CW’s “Jane the Virgin” will be short three episodes when the fourth season premieres on Friday, October 13.
According to TVLine, the decision to cut the season down to just 17 episodes after a 20-episode third season was executive producer Jennie Urman‘s, in conjunction with CBS Studios, which produces the series, and the network. The new season will be the lowest episode count yet for the show, which aired 22 episodes during its first and second seasons.
While 17 doesn’t seem good enough for our fair “Jane,” it’s definitely more than fans could have gotten if Urman had it her way. The EP previously revealed to TVLine that the show could produce even less episodes, citing a “grueling” production schedule for the series. ” “I think six [is perfect] for us,” she deadpanned. “I could knock out six excellent episodes.”
Gina Rodriguez (ex-Beverly, “The Bold and the Beautiful”) stars as the title character, Jane Villanueva.
“Jane the Virgin” moves to Fridays at 9:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. CT beginning October 13.
