We’re just nine weeks into the 2021-2022 television season and we’re already seeing the near collapse of ABC’s “GMA3: What You Need to Know.”

The News/Talk hybrid series that launched last year during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic hit a season low last week in Total Viewers and in Women 25-54 rating, and was off slightly from tying its season low in Women 18-49. Overall, the series ranked last in both demos and tied for last place with “The Talk” in Households. In Total Viewers, “GMA3” beat “The Talk” by just 81,000 viewers (1.502 million vs 1.421 million) during the week of November 15-19, 2021, the most recent week in which Nielsen ratings data is available. While “GMA3” has seen lower ratings before, particularly in Total Viewers, the show isn’t performing that much better than the one it replaced (“GMA3: Strahan, Sara & Keke”**).

“General Hospital” and “The View” also hit season lows in Total Viewers, although the former series remains up compared to the same week last year (2.103 million vs 2.029 million), and is similarly up from the show’s performance in 2019 (2.103 million vs 2.030 million). In fact, “GH” is the only daytime broadcast series to be up in Total Viewers compared to its performance two years earlier. “The View” lost -610,000 viewers compared to the same week last year when it was still riding high on Election coverage (2.284 million vs 2.894 million).

“The Young and the Restless” topped daytime broadcast in Women 25-54 (0.67 rating) for the first time this season. It beat out the second half-hour of “The Price is Right” (0.65 rating) which placed second and “TODAY 3rd Hour” (0.60 rating) which tied for third place with the first half-hour of “The Price is Right” (0.60 rating). In Women 18-49, the second half-hour of “The Price is Right” (0.44 rating) reclaimed the top spot, beating “TODAY 3rd Hour” which ranked second (0.43 rating) and “Y&R” (0.41 rating) which placed third.

While “The Talk” was the only daytime broadcast series to see some growth compared to the same week last year in Women 18-49 rating, a tied its season high with a 0.26 rating, the series doesn’t seem to be showing much improvement in Total Viewers as the show remains in last place despite having its best staple of co-hosts in more than a year (since the exit of Marie Osmond).

What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed for the week of November 15-19, 2021 in Women 25-54 rating, Women 18-49 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their performance in 2020 and 2019, respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance in the demos, will be posted soon.
