After Rayna (Connie Britton) chose Deacon (Charles Esten) on the winter finale of ABC’s “Nashville,” the series returns with all new episodes beginning Wednesday, February 4 with the question, “Can their love survive the year?”

In a newly released promo, Deacon is outraged after being diagnosed with liver cancer now that Reyna has declared her love for him. He’s shown saying, “I don’t want her like this. Taking care of me. I want to take care of her, but I can’t because I’m sick.”

In the winter finale, Rayna told Luke (Will Chase) she couldn’t marry him because she couldn’t do to him what she did to her ex-husband, Teddy (Eric Close), which was settling down with someone knowing that she will forever and always be in love with Deacon, who she shares a child with. Meanwhile, after having all that he can take of the hoopla surrounding Ruke (Rayna/Luke), Deacon is seen in his hotel room collapsing, which we later find out was the result of symptoms relating to his diagnosis.

“Nashville” airs Wednesdays at 10:00 PM, ET/PT on ABC.
