Despite signing a new four-year contract with CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” back in April of this year, Michael Muhney (Adam Newman) has been let go from the daytime soap he’s called home since 2009. The actor tweeted yesterday, “I’m so sorry. It breaks my heart to say this, but I was just let go from Y&R. My last day on set is this Thursday. My last air date will be Jan 30th. I’m going to take some private time with my wife & kids, as I am most concerned for their well-being. I have 3 final episodes to film, and because they are my last, I will be giving it everything I have. More details will follow… #xoxoxo.” Prior to the actor’s tweet, he hadn’t commented on the popular social network site since November 5. In a posting earlier today, he noted that his daughter, Ella, is celebrating her 6th birthday today.
In what may appear to be a clear indication as to where the storyline involving the death of Delia Abbott, and Adam’s role in said death, Muhney’s last film date and last airdate also happens to coincide with Billy Miller‘s (Billy Abbott) exit from the drama series. With Miller and Muhney set to film their last episodes on Thursday, December 19 and scheduled to last air on Thursday, January 30 – the first day of the all important February sweeps ratings period – it would appear that Billy’s hunt for the person that killed his daughter will come to a head and Adam will pay the ultimate price as a result. Despite all that, David Tom reprises the role of Billy beginning Monday, February 3.
Note: Although it is already being rumored that Adam Newman may be recast, as the character is after all the son of Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), sources tell Soap Opera Network that there are no plans at this time to do so.
