The soap world was hit this morning with the exciting news that “Smallville” and “Mistresses” star Justin Hartley (ex-Fox Crane) has been cast as “The Young and the Restless’” Adam Newman. Early reaction to the casting news seems to be positive thus far, and that goes for former portrayer Michael Muhney’s response, as well!

He’s been prancing around Genoa City only showing his hands to viewers, while the rest of the town thinks he’s dead, but Adam Newman is most certainly returning to CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” in the coming months with a new face after supposedly dying in a fiery explosion in late January as played by actor Michael Muhney. TV Guide’s Michael Logan is reporting that “Smallville” and “Revenge” star Justin Hartley is returning to daytime television to assume the role of the devilish Adam just in time for the all important November sweeps ratings period. Hartley, who will report to the CBS Television Center studio where “Y&R” is filmed in late September, previously portrayed the role of Fox Crane on NBC’s “Passions” from 2002 to 2006.

“All My Children” may no longer be in production as a result of the series being cancelled twice (thrice if you count the failed 2011 reboot), but some of its former soap stars have kept themselves in the news of late when it comes to their personal relationship status.
Fans of ABC’s “Revenge” might recall that the primetime soap ended on several cliffhangers, one of which was Victoria Grayson (Madeline Stowe) coming face to face with her forgotten son, Patrick. While we didn’t get to see his face, there’s a perfectly good reason why. The soap only just cast the actor to take on the role! On Friday, July 12, it was announced that Justin Hartley (“Passions,” “Arrow”, “Emily Owens M.D.,” “Smallville”) would portray the character that could be the saving grace Victoria needs in light of some family controversies and murders, or he could be the devil ready to get his own revenge on mommy dearest.
“Passions’” alum Justin Hartley has done a lot of work since he left his role as Fox Crane in 2006, including a leading role as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow in “Smallville,” as well as a role as Will Collins in “Emily Owens M.D.” And now comes word of the actor’s next chapter: He’ll be playing the boyfriend of Melissa Joan Hart’s character in ABC Family’s “Melissa & Joey!”

Television stunned the television industry in late January, when they decided to merge their UPN and WB Television Networks to create a new and improved network called The CW in September. Now, they have stunned the industry yet again with the hiring of former “Passions” star, Justin Hartley (ex-Fox Crane) in the new untitled “Aquaman” project. Hartley replaces Will Toale.”Will is a talented actor with a promising career and we hope to work with him in the future,” a CW spokesman said. “We have made the decision to go in a different direction with the ‘Aquaman’ role and wish him the best of luck in all of his endeavors.”
