As previously reported, “One Life to Live” has become an apparent (albeit possibly temporarily) casualty of the lawsuit between Prospect Park and the ABC Television Network, which the latter canceled in April 2011 after opting to restructure its daytime lineup. Erika Slezak, who has portrayed Victoria Lord on the drama series on both the ABC incarnation and the current Prospect Park/The OnLine Network version for more than 40 years, has released a statement on Prospect’s decision to halt production on the soap pending the resolution to its lawsuit against ABC.

Before “One Life to Live” returned on Monday, April 29 via Hulu, Hulu Plus and iTunes, we last saw Cutter Wentworth on a phone call while in prison on the ABC incarnation back in January 2012. So how did he get out and get some Shelter at Blair Cramer’s (Kassie DePaiva) new nightclub? “You mean in a TV show people can’t come back from things worse than jail?” jokingly said Cutter’s portrayer, Josh Kelly, during a recent interview with Soap Opera Network. “A lot of people get out of prison, and on a TV show it can happen even easier. People come back from the dead!” the actor noted.
When “One Life to Live” went off the air just over a year ago it was my favorite daily drama and it had been for quite some time. So, while the show’s ratings were rising, it was quite a shock to learn it had been canceled in 2011. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous with the series coming back, but this time without executive producer Frank Valentini and head writer Ron Carlivati.

On April 14, 2011, ABC sent shock-waves throughout the daytime industry when it announced it had decided to cancel “All My Children” and “One Life to Live.” Now two years to the day since that announcement, both soaps are in the process of not only returning to television but also to the world wide web courtesy of Prospect Park.
For more than 43 years ABC’s “One Life to Live” entertained millions of viewers each and every weekday, week after week, year after year. Sadly, the network canceled the soap in 2011 and the series aired its then final episode in January 2012. Since it was first announced that Prospect Park’s The OnLine Network was looking to once again revive “All My Children” and “One Life to Live,” after they were canceled by ABC in 2011, it has been said that the company planned to take the shows into a sexier and edgier environment. In a recent teaser released by iTunes for its launch of the two soaps, Erika Slezak (Victoria Lord, “OLTL”) is heard saying, “My agent said, ‘What do you want in this contract?’ I said, ‘No nudity!” Fans shouldn’t expect anything too racy on either show as Prospect Park co-founder Rich Frank admitted to Michael Maloney, Contributing Editor at Bauer Publishing for Soaps In Depth, in an interview with Variety. “We are going to be a little hotter and sexier,” said Frank. He added, “That doesn’t mean we’ll be doing anything that’s offensive. We’re trying to be contemporary and have storylines that are relevant to people’s lives.”
When “One Life to Live” returns next month, things won’t exactly going well for at least one longtime Llanview resident. According to “OLTL” Co-Head Writer Thom Racina, technology and tough economic times may have finally caught up with the town’s matriarch Victoria Lord (Erika Slezak) and her family’s newspaper The Banner.
“One Life to Live’s” longest serving cast member Erika Slezak (Viki) has released a new statement on her official website saying that Prospect Park is “working very hard to get everything right” for the online version of the long-running soap and says that cast and crew are “hoping for our former audience to return and continue to enjoy and for our new audience to get to know us.”
Ok, all you Roger Howarth (Todd Manning) fans: There may be a lot of brouhaha surrounding the beloved soap star’s status with “General Hospital” at the moment, but you can breath a sigh of relief when it comes to “One Life to Live”: He’s definitely making an appearance in Llanview, and here are the new photos to prove it!
As the old saying goes, a happy employee is a productive employee. And that must be a mantra Prospect Park believes in. According to the actors who have signed on to the serial dramas, “All My Children” and “One Life to Live,” the production company — headed by Jeff Kwatinetz and Richard Frank — has batted a thousand when it comes to being respectfully in charge.
