With no original episode of “General Hospital” airing on Monday, May 27 (a re-run of the Tuesday, April 2 50th anniversary episode will air instead), the soaps executive producer and head writer, Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati, respectively, are teasing multiple surprises in store next week on the soap beginning with the Tuesday, May 28 episode.
Monday, May 27 is memorial day and while CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” will air original episodes (which aren’t expected to count in the weekly Nielsen ratings), NBC’s “Days of our Lives” will be preempted for coverage of the French Open, while ABC’s “General Hospital” will air the real 50th Anniversary episode, which actually aired on Tuesday, April 2 after a March preemption pushed scheduling back a day (“GH” premiered on April 1, 1963). “All My Children” will air an original episode as the series is available exclusively on the internet and doesn’t abide by holiday preemptions.
In mid-April, Amazon Studios launched the 2013 “Watch the Shows. Call the Shots.” campaign in which viewers get to decide which pilot got picked up to series based on feedback and total views. This method differs from the traditional method in which executives at television networks such as ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, The CW, etc., order a project, decide which gets a pilot order, and then from the available crop decide which of those pilots gets picked up to series.
With a first airdate set for Monday, July 8, a CBS spokesperson has confirmed to Soap Opera Network that Camryn Grimes is returning to “The Young and the Restless.” The actress began filming her first scenes earlier today, details of which are being kept quiet. It is unclear at this time as to whether Grimes will be reprising her role of Cassie Newman on the show, either alive or as a ghost, or if she’ll be portraying a brand new character.
In a message posted today on his Twitter page, “General Hospital” star Bradford Anderson announced that he has opted to not renew his contract with the ABC Daytime drama series. As a result, he will continue portraying Damien Spinelli, a role in which he originated in 2007, as a recurring player. “Hey friends, I am still at ‘GH’ and will continue to be. Recurring isn’t a bad word 🙂 keep watching, great stuff is coming!” read Anderson’s tweet.
Newcomer Amber Skye Noyes, whose brother, Tyler, portrayed a young CJ Roberts back in the early 1990’s on “One Life to Live,” has been cast as Michelle, Matthew Buchanan’s (Robert Gorrie) online girlfriend. Viewers will recall that Matthew and Michelle began communicating via Facebook in recent episodes. Noyes debuts on the Thursday, June 27 episode of the soap.
“As The World Turns” alums Paolo Seganti (ex-Damien Grimaldi) and Marnie Schulenburg (ex-Alison Stewart) along with “Guiding Light” alum Ron Raines (ex-Alan Spaulding) are joining the cast of The OnLine Network’s “One Life to Live,” the network announced today. The three former CBS Daytime soap stars make their Llanview debuts this summer in newly created roles.
According to sources, the “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” head writing team changes occurred with Prospect Park deciding to release Marlene McPherson and Elizabeth Snyder (“AMC”) and Thom Racina (“OLTL”) from their contracts. This is in direct contrast to Susie Bedsow Horgan, who opted to exit her position as co-head writer of “OLTL” (with Racina) in early April, where we’re told she cited personal reasons behind her decision.
As the fourth week of “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” comes to a close, and with the recent reduction in weekly episodes of both “AMC” and “OLTL” now at just two originals, The OnLine Network has also reduced their Friday “MORE” series, which now combines the two soaps into one Friday recap/interview episode.
In a statement released a short time ago, Agnes Nixon, creator of both “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” and a consultant at Prospect Park, speaks out on Prospect Park’s decision to replace the “AMC” head writing team. Lisa Connor and Chip Hayes have been named new co-head writers of the soap. In addition, Jessica Klein and Marin Gazzaniga have been named the new co-head writers of “One Life to Live.”
Snoop Lion returns to The OnLine Network’s “One Life to Live” beginning Tuesday, May 28. TOLN has released the following video highlighting Lion’s upcoming appearance(s) on the soap as part of his collaborative work in the creation of “Brand New Start,” the new theme song used by “OLTL,” sung by IZA, who is newly signed to Boss Lady Entertainment and Snoop Lion‘s Berhane Sound System label.
As previously reported, CBS will air “The Young and the Restless: Tribute to Jeanne Cooper,” in place of an original episode of “Y&R,” on Tuesday, May 28. In a newly released clip, Daniel Goddard (Cane Ashby) says, “My favorite thing that Jeanne would do is on cue, cuss at Jess Walton [Jill Foster Abbott],” He added, “…I would get Jeanne to say things to Jess that would make a truck driver just freak out.”
On Monday, June 24, CBS premieres the highly anticipated summer event drama series, “Under the Dome,” based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel. Viewers will get to see how the town deals with the seclusion and their fight to get out.
CBS Daytime’s “The Price is Right” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” are joining forces with “The Young and the Restless” to pay tribute to the life of the late Jeanne Cooper, who for more than 39 years portrayed Katherine Chancellor on daytime’s most watched drama series.
Many of you have probably not heard the full theme song used for “All My Children” titled “We Are The Love” by Imaginary Friend, but no one has heard the full “One Life to Live” theme titled “Brand New Start” by IZA, who is newly signed to Boss Lady Entertainment and Snoop Lion’s Berhane Sound System label, until now!
“The Young and the Restless” will air a special tribute episode to the late Jeanne Cooper on Tuesday, May 28 (12:30-1:30 PM, ET; 11:00 AM-12:00 Noon, PT) on the CBS Television Network. Cast members and friends of the beloved actress, including Melody Thomas Scott, Christian Le Blanc, Tracey E. Bregman, Eric Braeden and “The Bold and the Beautiful’s” John McCook and Heather Tom, as well as family members such as her son, Corbin Bernsen, recently gathered on set to shoot a celebration of the life of their late friend, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 84. Cooper, the Emmy Award-winning actress who portrayed Katherine Chancellor for more than 39 years, is the show’s longest-running cast member.
Like “All My Children” co-star Jill Larson (Opal Cortlandt) before him, Vincent Irizarry (David Hayward) has posted a message on his Facebook page discussing the “AMC” and “One Life to Live” episode order reduction by Prospect Park. In his message, the actor notes, “With the great number of episodes being offered for this year, I’m confident that we’ll all be satisfied with the many hours of viewing pleasure available to us all. We, as a cast and production team, are extremely proud of our beloved shows airing, and can’t be more grateful to all of you for your overwhelming expressions of excitement and support for all we’re doing to bring these iconic shows back for you to enjoy.
