While the date for the 42nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards wasn’t necessarily a secret, it was still somewhat surprising when it was revealed that next year’s Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards would be taking place on Friday, April 24 and the big show would be taking place on Sunday, April 26 – the earliest either ceremony will have taken place since at least 2006. In an interview with David Michaels, Senior Executive Director and Co-Executive Producer for the Daytime Emmy Awards & Events, who notes to Soap Opera Network that we can likely thank “The Young and the Restless'” Christian Le Blanc (Michael Baldwin) for revealing the dates online, the executive addresses the red carpet debacle that rocked the industry earlier this year, while also providing insight into what we can look forward to seeing from both the creative side and the broadcast side for next year’s telecast, and a greater understanding of how four new categories will change the future of the awards ceremony.

In one of the rarest of circumstances, CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” announced on Twitter earlier this evening that actress Kim Matula (Hope Logan) will soon be departing the daytime drama series, just hours after Matula appeared live alongside co-stars Scott Clifton (Liam Spencer), Darin Brooks (Wyatt Fuller) and Ashleigh Brewer (Ivy Forrester) on the network’s daytime talk show, “The Talk.” Under normal circumstances the talent, or their representatives, would reveal departure news to the press or social media before the show was able to confirm casting updates.
As the saying goes, “Remember, remember! The fifth of November,” in reference to the fifth day of the month of November, which got a modern boost in understanding via the Natalie Portman vehicle “V for Vendetta,” some CBS Daytime soap fans will remember the day for a presidential press conference that resulted in their favorite soaps being interrupted in several markets, including the second largest market – Los Angeles! The CW announced today that the fourth season of “Hart of Dixie” will launch on Friday, January 9 at 9:00 PM, ET, with 10 all-new episodes. The series, starring Rachel Bilson (“The O.C.”) and Wilson Bethel (“The Young and the Restless”), follows a big city girl who moves to quirky BlueBell, Alabama and finds herself more at home there than anywhere she’s been before.
As previously reported, the seventh season of CBS’ “The Mentalist” will be its last. The network confirmed the news today when it announced the series will return to the primetime schedule on Sunday, November 30 at 9:30 PM, ET/9:00 PM, PT*, before moving to its regular Wednesday 8:00 PM time slot on January 7. “Mentalist” will bridge the gap between new episodes of “The Good Wife” during its Sunday run and take over for “Survivor” on Wednesdays before it concludes with a special two-hour series finale airing on Wednesday, February 18. In addition to “The Mentalist,” “Undercover Boss” returns to the lineup with three special Sunday broadcasts on December 14 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT), and December 21 and 28 (8:30-9:30 PM, ET/8:00-9:00 PM, PT*). On January 2, it will move to its regular Friday (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) time period.
This month on CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” fans will get to see the beautiful city of Amsterdam when Hope (Kim Matula), Liam (Scott Clifton), Wyatt (Darin Brooks) and Ivy (Ashleigh Brewer) travel abroad to mix business with pleasure, but an on location shoot isn’t the only thing to look forward to on the daytime drama series.

With NBC’s “Bad Judge” and “A to Z” pulling less a than a 1.0 rating in the key Adults 18-49 sales demographic the network has decided to end both Thursday comedies after airing the original full 13-episode order for each. “Judge,” the higher rated of the two, starred “The Practice’s” Kate Walsh as a “bad judge” who really isn’t. The series pulled a 0.9 in the demo in its most recent airing, while “A to Z,” co-starring Cristin Milioti (aka: the mother from CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother”), pulled in a 0.7 rating, which is the lowest rating a primetime show reportedly can hit before it gets the axe. Former “Passions” star Ryan McPartlin recently completed an arc on “Judge.”
On Tuesday, December 2, former “All My Children” stars Susan Lucci (ex-Erica Kane) and Walt Willey (ex-Jackson Montgomery) are set to reunite as part of a “Soap Opera Showdown” segment of NBCUniversal’s syndicated daytime talker, “The Meredith Vieira Show.” The episode finds Willey surprising Lucci during her showdown with host Meredith Vieira.

While it’s been the worst kept secret in daytime, Soap Opera Network can finally report that actress Molly Burnett is returning to NBC’s “Days of our Lives” in the contract role of Melanie Jonas, a role in which she originated in 2008. Burnett, who left the soap in 2012 in order to pursue outside projects, returns to Salem as her character harbors a secret that even daddy Jonas (Shawn Christian) isn’t aware of!
On Wednesday, November 5, “The Bold and the Beautiful” stars Darin Brooks (Wyatt), Ashleigh Brewer (Ivy), Scott Clifton (Liam) and Kim Matula (Hope) will be appearing on CBS’ “The Talk” to discuss their recent Amsterdam location shoot and the “B&B” episodes that begin airing on Friday, November 7.
While he played a waiter on two episodes of CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” in 2010, actor Christopher Sean is getting the chance to play what he loves when he joins the cast of NBC’s “Days of our Lives” next week as Paul, a baseball player who is being treated by Dr. Daniel Jonas (Shawn Christian) after an injury he’s sustained. His first airdate is set for Friday, November 7.
On Thursday, November 6, fans of NBC’s “Days of our Lives” will once again say goodbye to Eileen Davidson as she wraps her three month stint as Kristen DiMera on the daytime drama series. During her return, much of Kristen’s storyline revolved around her rivalry with Theresa (Jen Lilley) and her unusual relationship with Daniel (Shawn Christian), which included a roll in the hay.
With ABC becoming full owner of “The View,” after buying out Barbara Walters‘ stake over the summer, the network announced today that the daytime talker will now fall under the purview of ABC News after more than 17 years under the entertainment division, this despite a drastic makeover this fall with the inclusion of three new hosts joining Whoopi Goldberg on the panel. With the talk show now falling under the umbrella of the news division, “General Hospital” and “The Chew” remain the only entertainment programming airing during the daytime on the network.
As previously reported, soap stars Lindsay Hartley (“All My Children,” “Days of Our Lives,” “Passions“), Crystal Hunt (“Guiding Light,” “One Life to Live”), Vanessa Marcil (“Beverly Hills, 90210,” “General Hospital”), Chrystee Pharris (“Passions,” “General Hospital”) and Hunter Tylo (“The Bold and The Beautiful”) have signed on for POP’s newest reality series, “Queens of Drama,” where the ladies will work together to produce a pilot for a new serialized primetime drama series. As the poster above warns, today, October 28, marks the beginning of production for show. Donna Mills (“General Hospital,” “Knots Landing,” “Melrose Place”) will also be taking part with special appearances.
It should come as no surprise that CBS has handed full season episode orders to all four of its new dramas, including the #1 and #2 new series of the season, “NCIS: New Orleans” and “Scorpion,” Sunday’s #1 scripted broadcast, “Madam Secretary,” and the time period-winning suspense thriller “Stalker.”
