As has been the case in recent weeks, fans of “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “General Hospital” should expect their favorite soaps to be preempted all or in part on Tuesday, June 28 due to a previously unscheduled January 6th Committee hearing. “The Young and the Restless” is likely to air the first half of an all-new episode before CBS News breaks in with live coverage at 1:00 p.m. ET., similar to what was done on Thursday, June 16.
The unscheduled hearing comes as Congress is out of session and the committee had indicated they would be on a break until the legislative branch returned. Additionally, it’s being reported that the hearing will allow the committee to “present recently obtained evidence and receive witness testimony.” No other specific details have been made available, however, it’s been noted by other outlets that after last week’s report that documentarian Alex Holder had exclusive footage for his Discovery+ docuseries “Unprecedented,” which includes unique access to former President Donald Trump and his immediate family during the Capitol Assault, the committee will screen portions of the documentary to determine its value in its investigation. According to CBS, Norah O’Donnell (“CBS Evening News”) will once again anchor the network’s coverage which will be aired nationally beginning at 1:00 p.m. ET and on CBS News Streaming. Joining O’Donnell for the coverage are chief political analyst John Dickerson, chief election & campaign correspondent Robert Costa, chief national affairs and justice correspondent Jeff Pegues, congressional correspondent Scott MacFarlane and political correspondent Caitlin Huey-Burns.
Considering “Days of our Lives” airs at noon in some major markets, including New York’s WNBC, an all-new episode of the daytime drama series is expected to air without interruption. In time zones impacted by NBC News coverage of the hearings, viewers will be able to watch the episode in its entirety on Peacock or NBC On Demand.
Meanwhile, the June 16 preemption of “B&B” and “GH” left their respective networks to slot a repeat episode for time zones not impacted by CBS News or ABC News coverage. Another preemption occurred on Tuesday, June 21 for both shows which resulted in episodes being pushed to the next day. Only “GH” was preempted on Thursday, June 23 despite the committee moving that day’s hearing to 3:00 p.m. ET — in many major markets, including New York’s WABC, the soap airs at that time.
“The Talk” is expected to air an all-new episode in time zones not impacted by preemptions. For markets where the talk show isn’t shown, viewers can watch the episode in its entirety on the CBS App, Paramount+ and CBS On Demand.
