Daytime Broadcast Ratings for the Week of April 18-22, 2022

A look at how daytime broadcast performed during the week of April 18-22, 2022 in Total Viewers, Households, Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating.

CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” (3.672 million) came roaring back during the week of April 18-22, 2022, matching in total audience with the week of January 17-21, 2022 for its best overall performance since the week of January 3-7, 2022. The soap gained +249,000 viewers week to week and was up +448,000 viewers compared to the same week last year. Year to year, “Y&R” was flat in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating, tying for third place in Women 18-49 rating with “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “TODAY 3rd Hour,” each with a 0.4 rating, and tying for second place in Women 25-54 rating with “B&B” and the first half-hour of “The Price is Right,” each with a 0.7 rating.

The two half hours of “The Price is Right” (4.795 million/4.212 million) attracted their largest overall audiences since the week of February 21-25, 2022, and “The Talk” (1.536 million) had its best audience since the week of March 28-April 1, 2022. Meanwhile, both half hours of “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.772 million/2.421 million) were the only daytime broadcast series to lose viewers week to week while the second half-hour was down a mere -8,000 viewers compared to the same week last year.

“The Bold and the Beautiful” (3.213 million) hit a new season high in Total Viewers and attracted its largest overall audience since the week of April 20-24, 2020, the final week of pre-pandemic originals. The series tied for third place with “Y&R” and “TODAY 3rd Hour” in Women 18-49, each with a 0.4 rating. In Women 25-54, “B&B” tied for second place with “Y&R” and the first half-hour of “The Price is Right,” each with a 0.7 rating. In fact, “B&B” was the only daytime broadcast series to see gains in Women 25-54 compared to the same week last year, increasing +0.1 in rating. In Women 18-49, the soap was flat year to year.

Compared to its performance in 2020 (3.2136 million vs 3.275 million), “B&B” also managed to hold onto most of its total audience during a period in which TV viewing was reaching multi-year highs. The soap was down a mere -62,000 viewers compared to two years earlier.

“The View” (1.583 million) aired reruns all week but still managed to attract more viewers than “The Talk,” and beat the first half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal,” “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.594 million) and “The Talk” in Women 18-49 rating. “The View” tied for sixth place in Women 18-49 with a 0.3 rating to the latter three shows’ 0.2 rating. “GMA3: What You Need to Know” again placed last in Women 25-54, and tied for last place with the aforementioned “The Talk” and the first half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” in Women 18-49 rating. “The View” was officially retitled to “VIEW-ABC” which means its figures for the week will not count into the show’s season average.

Despite “The View” being in reruns, “General Hospital” (2.180 million) managed to increase by +71,000 viewers week to week. The soap also saw gains week to week in Women 25-54, +0.1 in rating, while remaining flat week to week and year to year in Women 18-49 rating.

“Days of our Lives” (1.818 million) had its best audience showing since the week of January 31-February 4, 2022, the final week of originals aired before going on a two-week hiatus due to NBC’s coverage of the Winter Olympic Games. The soap was up +154,000 viewers week to week.

What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of April 18-22, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2020 and 2021 (where available), respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance in the demos, will be posted soon.

Notes: Viewing levels were hitting multi-year highs in 2020 during the initial shutdown of the country due to COVID-19. Year-to-year comparisons (2022 vs 2021) among Households and Total Viewers will be back beginning with next week’s report (week of April 25-29, 2022).

Households and Total Viewers for “TODAY 3rd Hour” were not available at press time which currently skews the rankings in those categories. Comparable 2020 figures for “GMA3: What Need to Know” are based on the performance of “Pandemic: What You Need to Know.” The current iteration was rebranded effective June 2020.
