“This is your shot at redemption. If you don’t start thinking about this game entirely different, you are going to end up with nothing,” says Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) to Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) in today’s special episode of “The Young and the Restless,” wherein several of Genoa City’s finest force the younger Newman heir to face his evil ways.

In the episode, Victor (Eric Braeden) encourages Adam to make a fresh start. This includes taking ownership of the bad things he’s done to the people he loves, and in particular, the people he hates.

Look for scenes with Grossman’s Adam and Braeden’s Victor sitting on opposite sides of a chessboard, the one on the table, and, at closer inspection, the grander one that encompasses the room they’re in. Their scenes include a conversation between the two as Sharon (Sharon Case), Phyllis (Michelle Stafford), Nicholas (Joshua Morrow), Victoria (Amelia Heinle), Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson) interchangeably come face-to-face with Adam as they air out his misdeeds.

“It deals with all of the relationships in Adam’s life, the decisions he’s made in the past and what he really needs to do in order to move forward,” teases Grossman in an interview with SheKnows Soaps.

Further teasers for the episode indicate that Victoria plays games, and Chloe makes a bold move. Turns out they are just playing their hand on the chessboard.

“Each of the chess pieces represents a different character,” Grossman explains of the game which helps Adam “decide in which direction he wants to go with his life.”

This week also marks Grossman’s two-year on-air anniversary as Adam Newman on “Y&R.” Speaking to SheKnows Soaps, the actor says, “the first couple of months [was] just trying to get used to the pace and figuring out who Adam was and how he fit in. I was in nearly every episode those first few months. I’d never done daytime, so I wasn’t used to that amount of material or the pace. It was a lot!” He added, “But everyone was great. The vets all helped me figure things out and had such great advice.”

Make sure to tune into the Thursday, May 13 episode of “The Young and the Restless” which airs weekdays on CBS. Watch anytime on Paramount+ or On Demand.
