Just weeks before the fall television season gets underway comes word that CBS is developing a daytime talk show for actress Drew Barrymore. Geared for fall 2020, the project is said to be filming this week out of New York City, and, if picked up, will be released via CBS Television Distribution as a syndicated talker.

According to Variety, which first reported the news, Barrymore has been looking to enter the daytime talk show fray for some time. In 2016, a deal was struck for the actress to star in a talk show to be produced by Warner Bros.’ Telepictures unit although a pilot was never made and the deal eventually lapsed although it did lead to Barrymore appearing as a judge in the studio’s failed competition series “The World’s Best” that aired last season on CBS and was hosted by “The Late Late Show’s” James Corden.

Information surrounding the talk show are being kept under wraps but it’s understood that Barrymore will be an executive producer and that her Flower Films shingle will co-produce alongside CTD. A showrunner has not been formally named.

Barrymore’s entry into daytime television follows the debuts of Tamron Hall and Kelly Clarkson‘s talk shows debuting next month, and the return of daytime veterans Jerry Springer and Meredith Vieira with the court show “Judge Jerry” (NBCUniversal) and “25 Words or Less (FOX Television Stations), respectively.

Barrymore wrapped her three-season run in Netflix’s cult hit “Santa Clarita Diet” earlier this after its 30-episode run and is also an executive producer of the unscripted programs “Rattled” on TLC and “Tough Love” on VH1 through Flower Films, which produces.
