Soap alum Antonio Sabato Jr. (“General Hospital,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “Melrose Place”) has advanced in his bid as a Congressman, representing the 26th district in California. The actor turned politician secured the Republican nomination during the big California primary last night and will face Democratic incumbent Julia Brownley.

Vote Antonio

With polls closing at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, The New York Times reports Sabato Jr. received 23.1% of the votes during the California primary, the most of any Republican in the running, but less than half of what Brownley attained (23.1% vs. 52.9%). Of the 87,608 total votes received from 491 of 491 precincts reporting, Sabato Jr. received 20,226 votes. Brownley received 46,375.

The New York Times

A vocal supporter of President Donald Trump and his policies, even speaking at the 2016 Republican National Convention, Sabato Jr. announced his candidacy for Congress in May 2017. He ran on the platform of better representing California’s veterans, agriculture and national security.
