After a shaky beginning earlier in the season in the ratings, FOX’s “The Resident” has emerged as one of the network’s most adored new dramas, and the fourth overall picked up for a second season.

Averaging over 10 million viewers across all multi-platform viewing options, “The Resident” stars Matt Czuchry (“The Good Wife”) as Dr. Conrad Hawkins, a young doctor whose final years of training are showcased as the truth behind what really goes on in hospitals across the country are revealed. The series also stars Bruce Greenwood (“The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,” “Mad Men”), Manish Dayal (“Halt and Catch Fire”), Emily VanCamp (“Revenge”), Moran Atias (“24: Legacy”), Merrin Dungey (“Big Little Lies”), Shaunette Renée Wilson (“Billions”) and Melina Kanakaredes (“CSI: NY,” “Providence”).

The series’ executive producers include Todd Harthan (“Rosewood”), Amy Holden Jones (“Mystic Pizza,” “Indecent Proposal”), Rob Corn (“Grey’s Anatomy”), Antoine Fuqua (“Southpaw,” “Training Day”), David Boorstein (“Level 26: Dark Revelations”), Oly Obst (“The Mick,” “Ghosted”) and Phillip Noyce (“Patriot Games,” “The Bone Collector”), who also directed the pilot.

“Amy, Todd and all the producers on ‘The Resident’ set out to create a medical show that viewers haven’t seen before – to peel back the curtain and reveal the truth of what happens, both good and bad, behind the scenes at hospitals across the country. Clearly, they’ve succeeded,” said Michael Thorn, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “Matt, Emily, Bruce, Manish, Shaunette and the show’s entire cast have turned in consistently heartfelt performances, and we are so excited to go back to Chastain Memorial for another tremendous season.”

“The Resident” is the fourth drama to premiere during the 2017-2018 television season given season two orders by FOX. It joins “The Orville,” “The Gifted” and “9-1-1.” The series is expected to appear on the fall schedule when it is announced next week during FOX’s Upfront presentation to advertisers.
