Robert Palmer Watkins won’t be returning to ABC’s “General Hospital” as originally planned, reports Daytime Confidential. The actor, who has played Dillon Quartermaine on the soap since 2015, had been granted a couple of weeks off to film his new movie, “The Last Three Days,” which also happened to coincide with another planned two-week production hiatus by the daytime soap.

According to the publication, Watkins was “blindsided” by his dismissal from the show. ABC, nor the actor himself, has provided comment on the latest development.

Earlier today, Watkins had tweeted, “Always fun working with Wally Kurth.” He tagged his tweet with “bigbro” and “Quartermaines.” Dillon, along with his brother Ned (Kurth), Ned’s new bride Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) and Monica (Leslie Charleson) are what remains of the Quartermaine clan on the canvas.

On Tuesday, August 15, Watkins had tweeted, “Sometimes in life a door closes only so a window can open. There is so much to accomplish and see in this life. #staywoke #staygrateful.” While it’s unclear whether the tweet had referred to the actor’s ouster from the soap at the time, it does come across a bit ironic in the timing.

Look for an upcoming interview with the actor, conducted before his reported ouster, to be published on Soap Opera Network next week.
