Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo Santos, “All My Children”) is joining the “Queen of the South” cast. The actor has nabbed a recurring role on the upcoming USA Network drama.

Based on the best-selling book La Reina Del Sur, Queen of The South centers on Teresa Mendoza (Alice Braga), a young woman forced to go on the run and seek refuge in America, after her drug-dealing boyfriend is murdered in Mexico. She ends up teaming with someone from her past to bring down the leader of the drug trafficking ring that has her on the run.

According to Deadline, Consuelos will play Teo Aljarafe, an attorney hired to organize financial affairs by Camila Vargas (Veronica Falcon). Enticed by the life and power that the cartel world brings, he soon realizes he is in too deep.

Consuelos’ career, both in primetime and film, has been thriving of late. He currently appears as ex-fighter Sean Chapas on DirecTV drama “Kingdom” and has an upcoming guest spot on Hulu’s “Difficult People.”

Meanwhile, on the feature film front, Consuelos just wrapped a starring role in “Nine Lives,” a comedy about a stuffy businessman who finds himself trapped inside the body of his family’s cat. Consuelos has also joined the cast of “All We Had,” which centers on a young mother and her teenage daughter who relocate to a small midwestern town during the height of the economic crisis in hopes of making a better life.
