Photo: CBS’s “The Young and the Restless” picks up two Director Guild of America Award nominations.

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — ABC and CBS serials compete for top directing honors.

In releasing the 62nd Annual Director Guild of America nominations, DGA President Taylor Hackford best described the director contribution to the production process, “directors play a crucial role in eliciting performance, advancing the story and establishing the look and feel in all genres of television.” In 1991, the DGA began awarding directors of Daytime Serials. Michael Stich, a director for CBS’s “The Bold and the Beautiful,” earned the first win in the category. “One Life to Live” director Larry Carpenter earned last years win in the category. “The Young and the Restless” received two of the six nomination awarded this year. The nominees for outstanding achievement in direction of a Daytime Serial at the 62nd Annual DGA’s are as follows:

  • Casey Childs is nominated for the “All My Children” (ABC) episode titled “Bianca and Reese Get Married.” Childs team included Barbara M. Simmons, Anthony Pascarelli, Penny Bergman, Rusty Swope, Fritz Brekeller, Jennifer Minda, Marika Brancato. This is Childs’ fourth DGA Award nomination. He was previously nominated in this same category for “AMC” “Episode #9669” in 2007, “Episode #9297” in 2006 and “Episode #7919” in 2000.
  • Christopher Goutman is nominated for the “As the World Turns” (CBS) episode titled “Once Upon a Time.” Goutman’s team included Michael Kerner, Carol Sedwick, Nancy Barron, Jennifer Blood, Brett Hellman, Alexandra Verner Roalsvig and Jared Lynch. This is Mr. Goutman’s fourth DGA Award nomination. He was previously nominated in this same category for “ATWT” “Episode #12971” in 2007 “Episode #12,166” in 2004, and “Episode #10,446” in 1997.
  • Dean Lamont is nominated for “The Young and the Restless” (CBS) episode titled “Billy’s New Year’s Eve Revelation.” Lamont’s team included Marc Beruti, Christopher S. Mullen, Robbin Phillips, Thomas J. McDermott, Herbert A. Weaver Jr., Vanessa Androus and Erica Meyer. This is Lamont’s first DGA Award nomination.
  • William Ludel is nominated for the “General Hospital” (ABC) episode titled “Macho Men.” Ludel’s team included Christine Magarian-Ucar, Penny Pengra, Denise Van Cleave, Pete Fillmore, Dave Macleod, RC Cates, Craig McManus, Crystal Craft, Lisa Kaseff and Christine Cooper.This is Ludel’s sixth DGA Award nomination. He won DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Daytime Serials for “GH” “Episode #9801” in 2001 and “Episode #8248” in 1995; Ludel’s last nomination was for “GH’s” “Luke in Purgatory” episode in 2008.
  • Sally McDonald is nominated for “The Young and the Restless” (CBS) episode titled “Six Minutes and Counting.” McDonald’s team included Marc Beruti, Christopher S. Mullen, Robbin Phillips, Herbert A. Weaver Jr., Thomas J. McDermott, Vanessa Androus, Erica Meyer and Nancy Ortenberg. This is McDonald’s third DGA Award nomination. She was previously nominated in this same category for “Y&R” “Episode # 7784” in 2003 and “Episode # 6437” in 1998.
  • Cynthia J. Popp is nominated for “The Bold and the Beautiful” (CBS) episode titled “Fashion Challenge Sabotage.” Popp’s team included Steven A. Wacker, Clyde A. Kaplan, Jennifer L. Howard, Catherine A. Sedwick, Laura L. Yale, Douglas J. Hayden, Lisa M. Winthur-Huston, and Barbara Roche. This is Popp’s first DGA Award nomination.
